SECOYA LODGE
This new venture is owned by the Secoya indigenous group, whose numbers have rapidly declined nationally over the past few years, and now only have around 500 members in Ecuador. You will be delighted with the exceptional cuisine, knowledgeable guides and awesome encounters with these powerful and wise magicians of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
The Secoyas known at one time as the "encabellados", or "the long-haired ones", are the colorful magicians of the forest who share with their guests their vast knowledge of medicinal plants and how to live 100% sustainably in the forest.
Other adventures include nature walks, birding, swimming, kayaking, cultural encounters, painting workshops, and more. With so many options the Secoya Lodge allows you to choose...

The lodge is set back in and shaded just on the outside of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and the lush of the Amazon Rainforest. The lodge is cozy and provides accommodation for ten people (and private groups of 16!) in 4 spacious traditionally built, palms thatched cabins.
All cabins contain: a pair of twin beds (which can be joined to create a double if desired or transformed into triples for small families or even quadruples for private groups); a private bathroom with shower and toilet. Environmentally friendly soaps and shampoos are provided to ensure your footprint on the reserve is minimal. Electricity is available only in service areas at specific times of day. Your rooms will be romantically lit candles, so don't forget to bring your flashlights.
The main service area comprises of a dining area, lounge and hammocks overlooking the Aguarico River. The whole area is covered with traditional Secoya-style palm thatching to provide shade and cover from inclement weather. Other structures include a staff area, kitchen, toilets and storage buildings.
Unique locally made handicrafts and souvenirs can be bought from the community shop located in the comunity of Secoya Remolino close by to the lodge.
The lodge is located 5 minutes from the community of Secoya Remolino, on the edge of the southern border of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve at the Aguarico River.
Yaku Kawsay & Napo Lodges: close connections and partners in Nature
You can add a visit to the Secoya lodge on to your adventures with various Napo lodges and the Yaku Kawsay. The Yaku Kawsay is a fun interpretation center that reveals the Amazonian aquatic ecosystems, their complex functioning and the importance of conserving species in the Amazon. Make a complete eco-adventure by visiting a Napo lodge, the Yaku Kawsay, and Secoya as one trip!
Community Based tourism is not limited to full-scale operations like the lodges you will visit. A fine example of a smaller scale, but equally important project is the "Yaku Kawsay" or Underwater World Interpretation Center located in the northern portion of the Yasuni National Park.
The Quichua community of Providencia has developed this initiative to support the conservation of the Amazonian aquatic ecosystem by providing meaningful education to local communities, schools and travelers like you.
Conceptualized, built, and managed by the men and women of the community, the interpretative center is surprisingly thought provoking and a must-visit en-route to any destination on the lower Ecuadorian Amazon.
