SANI LODGE

Sani Lodge encompasses ecotourism, environmental conservation, and community projects in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. This project is owned and operated by members of a Kichwa community called Sani Isla.

The wildlife at Sani Lodge is outstanding, although it is obviously not possible to say exactly what the average visitor is likely to see due to the tremendous general biodiversity and the scarcity of some particular Amazon species. At Sani Lodge all the major mammals endemic to the area can be found here. There are also many types of monkeys and most visitors will be able to see at least a few varieties. Bird life is also excellent and Challuacocha is home to 5 species of Kingfishers, many species of parrots, macaws and toucans as well as tanagers, cormorants, cotingas and many others. All told, some 550 species of rainforest birds can be found in the area - making it an excellent place for bird watching.

Sani Lodge accommodates a maximum of 30 guests, emphasizing quality rather than quantity, and thereby offering you a more intimate experience in the rainforest. The lodge itself consists of ten, private, thatch-roofed cabins and four family cabins, each with a private bathroom. The cabins are spaciously designed for double or triple occupancy, and have screened windows to guard against insects while you sleep. Electric lights at the lodge run from ecologically friendly solar energy.

Additional to these, here you will be able to find a full service bar and lounge area. Internet services and laundry can be found in the lodge as well.
Three hours of ride in a motorized canoe from Coca city by the famous Napo river. The lodge lies inside of the Kichwa territory, in the area of Sucumbios and Orellana Provinces.

Specifically, located over the Challuacocha lake, which is formed by a small stream called Challuayacu. To the north of Challuacocha lies the Cuyabeno Reserve and along the southern border stretches the vast Yasuni National Park. In the corridor between, located on 40,000 hectares (100,000 acres) of untouched rainforest lies Sani Lodge. On your adventure, you will walk through a pristine rainforest gallery that is home to 1,500 species of trees, hundreds of climbing vines, and exotic flowers, as well as 550 species of tropical birds, 13 species of monkeys and 1,000 species of beautiful butterflies.

Regular departure dates from Coca to the Lodge are:

•Mondays for the 5 days / 4 nights tour
•Fridays for the 4 days / 3 nights

*If you want to get in and/or out of the lodge on non-operating days there is an extra fee of $200 each way (flat rate, fee not applicable if there are 6 or more passengers or to longer tours).
